Gender Specific Alcohol Rehabilitation Programs

A sobering statistic: More than 200,000 American women will lose their lives this year to alcohol and drug abuse and related illnesses. This is four times the number of women who will lose their lives to breast cancer. Ironically, the public thought is that this is a male dominated problem. However, these problems have plagued women for centuries.

If you or a loved one is experiencing addiction problems, a drug or alcohol rehabilitation program geared specifically toward women may be the best solution on your path to recovery. Programs that are gender specific can give women a safe place to regain control and a secure place for recovery. These types of program focus on self-esteem and self-confidence issues that will help achieve sobriety.

The issues swirling around addiction are quite different between women and men. For instance, women with children may have completely different issues. This may prevent women from acknowledging that help is needed, as well as preventing them from seeking help through treatment. Treatment centers specializing in women have programs that may include the children onsite or have other programs to integrate the family.

Studies indicate that women who abuse drugs or alcohol have certain issues that are more highly prevalent in women than in men. These include lack of self confidence, a low self esteem, depression, and lack of job skills. Other issues faced by women include a lack of a social support system and a strong value system.

Treatment facilities that focus on women analyze these issues and ensure that they are addressed during the course of treatment. These centers may use any number of therapies including support groups, detoxification, and intervention. Other treatment centers include wide ranging approaches such as anger management assistance, acupuncture, and equine-assisted therapy.

It’s never too early to consult a physician to find the right rehab program for you or a loved one.

Drug Addiction Recovery Program Leads to Better Health

Establishing a Solid Health Routine

Practicing good health means deciding first that you want to pursue a better lifestyle and a healthier way of living. To do this and to meet your goals, you must first decide you should develop a consistent routine that you will be able to live by on a regular basis. This can include things like following a particular daily exercise schedule, eating a certain way, and adding more healthy foods to your diet. It could even include eliminating alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and nicotine from your lifestyle. Many individuals who have done the latter have participated in a drug addiction recovery program that has been successful in helping them break those habits and become healthier.

Making Good Health a Lifelong Pursuit

The decision to live healthy is not a one-time thought that you do at a moment’s notice. It’s a lifelong pursuit you may have to take one day at a time as you pay attention to those areas that may challenge you. Because it’s a daily journey, you should expect to make adjustments along the way as your body changes and your knowledge about healthy and good living starts to increase. You may find you need more or less of something, and it’s best to take it carefully when developing a routine rather than trying to assimilate everything all at once.

Health Counseling

A health counselor who is knowledgeable in all areas of total body health would be ideal to use as a resource when you begin your journey. Counselors can help you make good choices and work through difficult decisions that may inhibit your growth. Health counseling also includes giving you information about drugs and medicines and how they affect your body. This can help your journey to good health be successful and complete.
