Being A Smarter & Safer Traveler

It’s so exciting to pack your bags and get away from normal life for awhile! However, there are many safety issues to consider when you are travelling. You need to be smart and take some precautions so that you can be safer during your trip especially if you happen to be travelling alone.

As far as your luggage is concerned, there are a few things you can do to protect yourself. First of all, put a lock on all your suitcases. Also, if you have had fun shopping while on your vacation and have bought a lot of items to take home with you, you might want to secure your bag with some strong tape as well. Make sure to stay close to your valuables as you go through airport security and keep your carry-on bag safe in public areas of the airport by putting your foot through the strap when it is on the floor.

Also, if you are flying overnight, make sure to keep an eye on your belongings at all times. Put you valuables in something you can wear while sleeping, like a waist pack instead of putting it in a stowed carry on bag. Also, if you have to go to the bathroom, don’t leave your purse, backpack, or any valuables behind take them with you (unless you have a trusted partner or friend that will be there to watch them).

Another smart travel tips to think about is tearing the name and address labels off of any magazines you take with you to read, in case you happen to leave one behind somewhere. That way you won’t be announcing to everyone and anyone that you are away from home right now.

In regards to your destination, one tip is that you can talk to the flight attendants or other passengers or about their thoughts on the safety of the place you are going to and whether they have been there or have any concerns to share. It gives you a good idea of what to expect when you get off the plane.

Besides, you’ll be save tons by taking an early vacation in the season!

Airfare is also typically lower during the week. Hotels, restaurants and even retail shops have better deals during the week to entice the crowds. While you might have to take off work, making your vacation during the week might save you hundreds.

Now You’re Going Places: Interesting Travel Destinations

When planning your trip, plan for the unconventional. Popular travel destinations mean higher prices on everything, from food to souvenirs. Instead of New York City, why not Pittsburgh? Instead of the Grand Canyon, why not Northeastern Wyoming? These latter destinations are not only less expensive travel destinations but also full of culture and interesting hot spots of their own. A little on-line research and you can have all the fun you would have anywhere else for a fraction of the cost!

Groceries will go Far!

When going on vacation, don’t leave reason at home! Be sure to do some light grocery shopping and eat homemade breakfasts and lunches. Of course, enjoy the culinary delights that your travel destination has to offer but eating out every meal will make a serious dent on your budget, so be sure to keep it within reason.
